A Motor Show in the nature: Parco Valentino 2019

The 5th edition of Parco Valentino, Turin Motor Show located in the homonymous park, ended on June, 23rd. The 2019 edition started on June, 19th, hosted by Assessors Tronzano and Pisano, the ACI President Sticchi Damiani and, of course, Parco Valentino President Andrea Levy. After the old Motor Show closing in 2002, a city like Turin, beating heart of the Italian automotive market together with the Motor Valley in Emilia, couldn’t miss an important kermesse. So for the fifth time, among various European and World shows, the Piedmont region finds itself with a new, special automotive experience: a true diffused motor show, not limited to the exhibition of the cars (54 manufacturers in the 2019 edition) inside the wonderful park, but with a whole lot of parades, car meets and events all around the streets of the city.

Torino: where automotive history is made

The court of the Castle of Valentino, built in the XVI century in the Park, hosted the exhibition of the most famous and exclusive cars of all times. Collectors’ pieces such as the Ferrari F40 and F50, the Lamborghini Miura and Countach designed by Marcello Gandini, the Porsche 911 from 1963 to the present day. Among the models, there are even holy motorsport cars: the rally Lancia Stratos and 037 and Michele Alboreto’s Formula 1 Ferrari (1984) which started the President Parade.

This diffused motor show brought more than 400 cars around Via Roma, Piazza Castello and Piazza San Carlo for the opening of the event. During the 2019 Parco Valentino thousands of enthusiasts met each other in Turin to celebrate the anniversaries of their favorite brands, behind the wheel: Mini’s 60th anniversary and Abarth’s 70th one, and the Centennary of Citroen.

For closing the event in style, more than 200 collectors took part to the Gran Prix Parco Valentino on June, 23rd, driving through Turin and Superga, and arriving in the suggestive Reggia di Venaria.

News in the Park

One for each taste. The visitors of the new Turin Motor Show took part to dozens of national debuts and premieres, with an extended opening of the Park, until midnight every night. After admiring it in Geneva, the lovers of the Biscione had the chance to take a closer look at the Alfa Romeo Tonale, future SUV Made in Milan. Alfa decided to go big, exhibiting the Alfa Romeo Racing F1 car driven by Raikkonen and Giovinazzi. Pagani brought a new one-off of the Huayra, the Italian Pininfarina and Italdesign presented their latest creations, the Battista and the DaVinci. For those who live with their feet on the ground, Peugeot premiered the new 508 Plug-In Hybrid, in SW version, as long as the saloon Skoda Superb and the little SUV Made in USA, Jeep Renegade.

Big importance to design, too: for many people the car is a work of art, more than a commute, and the organizers of the event know it. So among the news there’s Parco Valentino Classic, the first concours d’elegance inside the Castle. And then prestigious awards: Car Design Award and Collector’s Award were held this year, as long as the Parco Valentino Designer Award, given to Alfredo Stola and Giovanna Scaglione.

A green experience

You can’t make a motor show inside a park, without paying attetion to nature. Apart from holy beasts and modern supercars, visitors of Parco Valentino touched with their hands cars that some years ago only the strongest environmentalists could imagine. Enel X and Motor1 brought a whole lineup of electric and plug-in hybrid cars: from the Car Of The Year Jaguar I-Pace to the Audi e-tron, together with the Volkswagen ID3 1st and the Asian Nissan, Toyota and Hyundai. The green cars of this event, though, were not just exhibition pieces: wanderers and enthusiasts had the chance to live for the first time the quiet, electric driving experience, with different test-drives during the 5 days. But the future is innovation, too: on the opening day the ribbon was cut by an autonomous driving car, developed by Bylogix in collaboration with the City of Turin.
