Non fatevi ingannare dalla storia relativamente giovane del suo camiciaio ma lasciatevi stupire dalla sua passione per l’arte del su misura. Le Mani di Napoli ci ha fatto conoscere la sua storia, la storia di Alberto Nolano.
Camiceria Nolano
Alberto Nolano nasce nel 1985 e da sempre è legato alla sua Napoli. Coltiva fin da ragazzo la passione per le camicie e, dopo essersi formato presso l’accademia della moda di Napoli come modellista, decide nel marzo 2015 di aprire la sua camiceria, collocata oggi esattamente tra il rinnovato Rione Santità e la magnificenza di Capodimonte.

Eleganza del Gusto: Come nasce la camiceria Nolano?
Alberto Nolano: Da ragazzo ho potuto fare le prime esperienze nel settore dell’abbigliamento, in società
con un mio amico, questo mi ha consentito di sviluppare il mio lato imprenditoriale. All’epoca tra noi
ragazzi era obbligatorio indossare una camicia per entrare in discoteca, era un segno che ti identificava, e a Napoli non sono mai mancate botteghe che le realizzavano su misura.
Decidemmo di dare il nostro contributo cominciando ad approcciarci a delle fabbriche vicino Napoli per
fare le camicie, per i nostri amici, che ci esortavano. Col tempo tali richieste arrivarono anche da molti altri
ragazzi di Napoli. In quel periodo, con l’avvento del fast fashion, nel settore dell’abbigliamento ci fu un declino; quindi, pensammo di virare sul su misura.
Il mio socio è andato in America, io invece decisi di rimanere qui a Napoli. Volevo farle io le camicie, volevo entrare nel meccanismo, volevo capire fino in fondo questo lavoro. Era diventata una passione, nata con il passaparola e poi diventata qualcosa di più grande. Dopo aver fatto un corso di un anno da modellista all’Accademia della Moda a Napoli, nel 2010, cominciai a tagliare le camicie in casa.
Nonostante mia madre fosse già nel settore produttivo, io avevo però bisogno di studiare il sistema di lavoro per arrivare alla consegna vera e propria della camicia. Così dopo il corso da modellista che mi ha dato la base per cominciare il lavoro ho avuto delle esperienze in alcune camicerie qui a Napoli.
Ho aperto nel 2015 per ripicca, con coraggio, perché non venivo da una famiglia di camiciai. Ho sempre voluto offrire ai clienti flessibilità dando la possibilità di effettuare le prove anche al di fuori della camiceria.
Quando nel 2008 scoprì Facebook e ne intuì il potenziale si mosse anche una macchina a livello social che mi ha permesso di farmi conoscere. Perché le camicerie storiche ci sono sempre state a Napoli ma una persona giovane che si avvicina a questo lavoro fa sempre risonanza. In questo lavoro è importante l’umiltà di riconoscersi artigiani, consapevoli del fatto che si può sempre sbagliare.
EdG: Nolano, con una bella storia, arriva oggi nel 2023. Se dovessi pensare a dei sogni da realizzare, ad uno
sviluppo futuro a cosa penseresti?
AN: A me piace programmare. Quando iniziai con la camiceria e feci un programma di 5 anni, dal 2015 al 2020. Nel 2020 mi sentivo di poter fare qualcosa di più e fui rallentato dalla pandemia. I miei programmi
sono slittati ma non abbiamo mai smesso di cercare di migliorare il prodotto, con tessuti più alti, di nicchia. L’accelerazione digitale ci ha permesso di farci conoscere, ora stiamo cercando di migliorare sempre di più e di strutturarci in maniera più forte.
EdG: Perché Alberto Nolano decide di entrare in Le mani di Napoli e cosa si aspetta da questo percorso?
AN: Quando mi hanno prospettato di entrare in questo percorso l’ho colta con entusiasmo. Non c’è mai stata una associazione del genere a Napoli. Sono stati fatti dei tentativi ma non si è mai realmente giunti ad un confronto. In tutti i mestieri ci sono delle associazioni di categoria per tutelare chi ci lavora, nel nostro caso gli artigiani, ed è questo il compito di una associazione.
A Napoli siamo tanti ma dovremmo diventare di più, per avere un peso e fare sentire la nostra voce. Parliamo dei problemi della nostra categoria e di come risolverli. Spero che riusciremo a crescere in numero, che tante altre realtà possano avvicinarsi affinché possiamo tutti crescere professionalmente.

Alberto Nolano was born in 1985 and has always been linked to his Naples. Since he was a boy, he has
cultivated a passion for shirts and, after having trained at the Naples fashion academy as a model maker, he decided in March 2015 to open his own shirt shop.

Eleganza del Gusto: How was the Nolano shirtmaker brand born?
Alberto Nolano: As a boy I was able to gain my first experiences in the clothing sector, in partnership with a friend of mine, this allowed me to develop my entrepreneurial side. At the time it was mandatory for us
boys to wear a shirt to enter the disco, it was a sign that identified you, and in Naples there has never been a lack of shops that made them to measure.
We decided to make our contribution by starting to approach factories near Naples to make shirts for our friends, who encouraged us. Over time, these requests also came from many other boys in Naples. At that time, with the advent of fast fashion, there was a decline in the clothing sector; therefore, we decided to go custom made.
My partner went to America, but I decided to stay here in Naples. I wanted to make shirts and despite my mother was involved in the industry, I wanted to get into the mechanism, I wanted to fully understand this job.
It had become a passion, born with word of mouth and then grew into something bigger. After taking a one-year model making course at the Accademia della Moda in Naples, in 2010, I started cutting shirts at home. However, I needed to study the working system to arrive at the actual delivery of the shirt.
So, after the model making course that gave me the basis for starting the job, I had some experience in some shirt shops here in Naples.
I opened in 2015 out of spite, with courage, because I didn’t come from a family of shirt makers. I have always wanted to offer customers flexibility by giving them the opportunity to try on even outside the shirt industry. When I discovered Facebook in 2008 and sensed its potential, a social machine also moved that allowed me to make myself known. Because there have always been historical shirt factories in Naples, but a young person who approaches this work always resonates.
In this work, the humility of recognizing oneself as a craftsman is important, aware of the fact that one can always make mistakes.
EdG: Nolano, a good story, arrives today in 2023. If you had to think of dreams to achieve, of a future development, what would you think of?
AN: I like programming. When I started with shirts I made a 5-year program, from 2015 to 2020. In 2020 I
felt I could do something more and was slowed down by the pandemic. My programs have slipped but we have never stopped trying to improve the product, with higher, niche fabrics. The advent of the Internet has allowed us to make ourselves known, now we are trying to improve more and more and structure ourselves in a stronger way.
EdG: Why did Alberto Nolano decide to enter Le Mani di Napoli and what do you expect from this path?
AN: When they asked me to enter this path, I took it with enthusiasm. There has never been such an
association in Naples. Attempts have been made but no real comparison has ever been made. In all trades there are trade associations to protect those who work there, in our case the artisans and this is the task of an association.
In Naples we are many, but we should become more, to have weight and make our voice heard. We talk about the problems in our category and how to solve them. I hope that we will be able to grow in number, that many other realities can approach so that everyone can grow professionally.
