IAA Mobility si riconferma, per l’edizione 2023, un’importante vetrina per le case automobilistiche premium tedesche: tra i modelli di fascia media asiatici ed i concept più sfrenati dei produttori europei, BMW presenta al pubblico l’ultima generazione di Serie 5, nel segno della sostenibilità al servizio, ancora una volta, del piacere di guida.
La profonda evoluzione estetica
Lo studio estetico di BMW sulle ultime generazioni della compatta Serie 1 e del SUV X1 si ritrovano familiarmente nel look della nuova BMW Serie 5, nome in codice G60. Le caratteristiche esterne infatti sembrano prendere le distanze dall’aggressività quasi esasperata di sportive e supercar come M3 ed M4, per accompagnare lo sguardo dei presenti al Salone di Monaco attraverso l’evoluzione estetica dell’Elica.
Anteriormente infatti i fari con firma luminosa a listelli verticali accompagnano la rivisitazione della calandra “a doppio rene”, con optional come la retroilluminazione della stessa con tecnologia Iconic Glow. La linea laterale segue convenzionalmente i dettami delle berline business, arricchendo però il concetto con una spalla alta dal design deciso, e con dettagli come il numero 5 in rilievo sul montante posteriore, e cerchi dai nuovi design da 18” a 21”.
Posteriormente è più levigata, con uno splitter sobrio ma aerodinamico e dei nuovi gruppi ottici piatti con firma luminosa ad “L”: il retro segue il fil rouge dell’eleganza sportiva. Come in passato, il look di BMW Serie 5 può essere arricchito dai pacchetti M Sport ed M Sport Pro, e personalizzato con le colorazioni BMW Individual. Le dimensioni della Serie 5 2024, infine, salgono a 5,06 m di lunghezza, con una crescita di 3 cm anche per larghezza ed altezza.
Interni e tecnologia
L’aumento in lunghezza delle dimensioni della Serie 5 2024 si ripercuote in una crescita di 2 cm del passo, arrivando a 2.99 m. Maggiore spazio e comfort, quindi, che ben si accompagnano alle soluzioni scelte per i rivestimenti: ancora sofisticate ma con una grande attenzione alla sostenibilità. La configurazione standard prevede nuovi sedili sportivi, con la loro variante comfort a regolazioni elettriche come optional. Ciò che colpisce in generale è la presenza, prima volta per BMW, di interni completamente vegani: sedili, cruscotto, volante e pannelli porta sono totalmente animal-free. Per gli amanti della sensazione della pelle, la configurazione Veganza offre feedback simile con tanto di finitura perforata. Tra gli optional, infine, le varianti bicolore dei rivestimenti in pelle BMW Individual Merino.
Non sarebbe una vera BMW senza una degna dose di tecnologia: il lusso, nel 2024, passerà obbligatoriamente da qui. L’abitacolo è quasi interamente digitalizzato, con pochi pulsanti fisici ed il controllo delle funzionalità della vettura attraverso il BMW Curved Display: una strumentazione da 14,9” dietro il volante unita ad un infotainment con diagonale da 12,3” incastonati in una superficie che circonda visivamente il guidatore. Il sistema operativo è il BMW Operating System 8.5, ed è dotato della connettività 5G.
La tecnologia della nuova Serie 5 è però destinata soprattutto alla sicurezza di guida: oltre a cruise control adattivo ed un head-up display con realtà aumentata, debutta per la prima volta al mondo l’Active Lane Change Assistant con attivazione oculare: se per i mercati USA, Canada e Germania la svolta automatica dell’Highway Assistant avviene con il semplice inserimento delle frecce, questo nuovo sistema consente di approvare il cambio corsia proposto automaticamente dalla Serie 5, semplicemente spostando lo sguardo dalla strada allo specchietto retrovisore esterno.
Avanguardia sostenibile e libertà di scelta
Mobilità premium, nel 2024, si tradurrà automaticamente in sostenibilità. Un lusso per sempre più acquirenti, che trova la sua avanguardia in auto come la nuova BMW Serie 5. Sono infatti disponibili classiche varianti a benzina e diesel con sistemi Mild Hybrid a 48V: 4 cilindri da 208 CV per la 520i, e da 197 CV per le 520d e 520d xDrive. Arriveranno anche propulsori a 6 cilindri, un classico di BMW, oltre alle varianti Plug-in Hybrid come la 530e.
Ma BMW ha presentato a Monaco soprattutto l’inedita i5, completamente elettrica. Due le varianti per questa Serie 5 ad emissioni (ma anche rumori e vibrazioni) zero, ricaricabile in corrente alternata ad 11 o 22 kW, ed in corrente continua con un picco di 205 kW: si passa dal 10 all’80% di carica in 30 minuti. La i5 eDrive 40 a trazione posteriore monta un motore da 250 kW, capace di 430 NM, con una velocità di punta di 193 km orari ed un’accelerazione nello 0-100 di 6 secondi. La più potente e sportiva i5 M60 xDrive a trazione integrale, invece, monta un powertrain da 442 kW per 820 NM di coppia: copre lo 0-100 in 3,8 secondi con una velocità massima di 230 km orari.
Entrambe le versioni sono dotate di un pacco batterie da 81,2 kWh. A parità di batterie, la differenza in autonomia la fanno le prestazioni: i5 eDrive 40 potrà percorrere 477-582 km con una sola carica; la percorrenza dell’i5 M60 xDrive invece scenderà a 455-516 km.
BMW 5 Series 2024: business sedan bordering on executive
For the 2023 edition, IAA Mobility is reconfirmed as an important showcase for German premium car manufacturers: between Asian mid-range models and the most unbridled concepts of European manufacturers, BMW presents the latest generation of the 5 Series to the public. In the name of sustainability at the service, once again, of driving pleasure.
The profound aesthetic evolution
BMW’s aesthetic study of the latest generations of the compact 1 Series and the X1 SUV can be found familiarly in the looks of the new BMW 5 Series, codenamed G60. In fact, the external features seem to distance themselves from the almost exasperated aggressiveness of sports cars and supercars such as the M3 and M4, to accompany the gaze of those present at the IAA Mobility 2023 through the aesthetic evolution of the brand. In fact, at the front, the headlights with luminous signature in vertical slats accompany the revisiting of the “double kidney” grille, with options such as its backlighting with Iconic Glow technology.
The side line conventionally follows the dictates of business sedans, however enriching the concept with a high shoulder and a decisive design, and with details such as the number 5 in relief on the rear pillar, and rims with new designs from 18″ to 21″. At the rear it is smoother, with a sober but aerodynamic splitter and new flat light clusters with an “L” light signature: the rear follows the common thread of sporting elegance.
As in the past, the look of the BMW 5 Series can be enhanced by the M Sport and M Sport Pro packages, and customized with BMW Individual color schemes. Finally, the dimensions of the 2024 5 Series rise to 5.06 m in length, with an increase of 3 cm also in width and height.
Interiors and technology
The increase in length of the dimensions of the 2024 5 Series results in a 2 cm increase in the wheelbase, reaching 2.99 m. Greater space and comfort, therefore, which go well with the solutions chosen for the coverings: still sophisticated but with great attention to sustainability. The standard configuration includes new sports seats, with their electrically adjustable comfort variant as an option. What is generally striking is the presence, a first for BMW, of completely vegan interiors: seats, dashboard, steering wheel and door panels are totally animal-free. For lovers of the leather feel, the Veganza configuration offers similar feedback complete with a perforated finish. Finally, among the options, the two-tone variants of the BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery.
It wouldn’t be a real BMW without a worthy dose of technology: luxury, in 2024, will necessarily pass through here. The passenger compartment is almost entirely digitized, with a few physical buttons and control of the car’s functions through the BMW Curved Display: a 14.9″ instrument panel behind the steering wheel combined with infotainment with a 12.3″ diagonal, set in a surface which visually surrounds the driver.
The OS is the BMW Operating System 8.5, and is equipped with 5G connectivity. However, the technology of the new 5 Series is intended above all for driving safety: in addition to adaptive cruise control and a head-up display with augmented reality, the Active Lane Change Assistant with eye activation is making its debut in the world for the first time: if in USA, Canada and Germany markets the automatic turn of the Highway Assistant takes place with the simple insertion of the blinkers, this new system allows to approve the lane change proposed automatically by the 5 Series, simply by moving your gaze from the road to the external rear view mirror.
Sustainable avant-garde and freedom of choice
Premium mobility, in 2024, will automatically translate into sustainability. A luxury for more and more buyers, which finds its avant-garde in cars such as the new BMW 5 Series. In fact, classic petrol and diesel variants are available with 48V Mild Hybrid systems: 208 HP 4-cylinder for the 520i, and 197 HP for the 520d and 520d xDrive. 6-cylinder engines, a BMW classic, will also arrive, as well as Plug-in Hybrid variants such as the 530e.
But in Munich BMW presented above all the brand new i5, fully electric. There are two variants for this 5 Series with zero emissions (but also noise and vibrations), rechargeable in AC at 11 or 22 kW, and in DC with a peak of 205 kW: you go from 10 to 80% charge in 30 minutes. The rear-wheel drive i5 eDrive 40 mounts a 250 kW engine, capable of 430 NM, with a top speed of 193 km per hour and acceleration in 0-100 in 6 seconds.
The more powerful and sporty all-wheel drive i5 M60 xDrive, on the other hand, mounts a 442 kW powertrain for 820 NM of torque: it covers 0-100 in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 230 km/h.
Both versions are equipped with an 81.2 kWh battery pack. With the same batteries, the difference in autonomy is made by performance: the i5 eDrive 40 will be able to travel 477-582 km on a single charge; the range of the i5 M60 xDrive instead will drop to 455-516 km.
