Era il 1972 quando da un’idea di Gilberto Iannozzi nasce il Jackie O’, nel cuore delle strade della dolce vita, in Via Boncompagni (traversa di Via Veneto). Il nome fu pensato da Gil Cagnèche all’epoca ne curava le pubbliche relazioni: un esplicito omaggio ad una icona di quegli anni, Jackie Onassis, vedova di John Kennedy.
Gli eccessi del passato
Diventato da subito un punto di riferimento non solo per la Roma bene ma anche e soprattutto un “teatro” da dove le star internazionali raccontavano gli eccessi ed il benessere di quegli anni.
“Da qui è passato il mondo” racconta Veronica Iannozzi, figlia di Gilberto Iannozzi “Alain Delon, Gina Lollobrigida, i Rolling Stones, la principessa Margaret di Inghilterra, Andy Warhol, Helmut Berger ma anche nomi italiani come Stefania Sandrelli, Paolo Villaggio, Marcello Mastroianni, Vittorio Gassman”.
Un locale che fin dai suoi albori ha fatto parte della vita dei romani; citato più volte nei film del “Re di Roma’’, Alberto Sordi. Ognuno di questi nomi è stato immortalato dagli storici paparazzi dell’epoca: Rino Barillari, Marcello Radogna, Umberto Pizzi, e che, con i loro scatti, hanno fermato il tempo. Sono le istantanee in bianco e nero che dominano il locale perché quei nomi, le storie di ognuno di loro, hanno reso memorabile il Jackie O’. Un locale che mantiene la stessa magia da 50 anni, in cui non si è mai sentita la necessità di seguire le mode anzi, che spesso le ha dettate.
La tradizione nel presente
Quella del Jackie O’ è anche la storia di un duo al femminile, Beatrice e Veronica Iannozzi, madre e figlia, due generazioni simbolo di continuità, tenacia e successo nel difficile mondo della notte.
Il segreto del loro successo forse risiede proprio nella determinazione con cui non si sono mai piegate ai cambiamenti, promettendo di far vivere ad ogni ospite un vero e proprio viaggio nel tempo: gli anni ‘70/’80 in cui anche la ristorazione era fatta a mo’ di spettacolo. Il menu del ristorante è un amarcord quegli anni: Riso al salto, Filetto al pepe verde con flambé direttamente in sala per stupire, le Crepes suzette. Un’ottima materia prima per una cucina classica agli antipodi del gourmet, quella firmata dallo Chef Federico Sparaco. Ed il pianobar, format che da sempre contraddistingue il Jackie O’, che fa ballare fino all’alba.
Qualche giorno fa ha festeggiato i suoi inarrestabili 50 anni di attività, per rivivere quello che è stato e che continua ad essere un locale che ha segnato un’epoca.

It was 1972 when the Jackie O’ was born from an idea by Gilberto Iannozzi, in the heart of the streets of the dolce vita, in Via Boncompagni (cross of Via Veneto). The name was thought up by Gil Cagnèche who took care of its public relations at the time: an explicit homage to an icon of those years, Jackie Onassis, widow of John Kennedy.
The excesses of the past
It immediately became a point of reference not only for good Rome but also and above all a “theater” from where international stars talked about the excesses and well-being of those years.
“The world has passed from here” says Veronica Iannozzi, daughter of Gilberto Iannozzi “Alain Delon, Gina Lollobrigida, the Rolling Stones, Princess Margaret of England, Andy Warhol, Helmut Berger but also Italian names such as Stefania Sandrelli, Paolo Villaggio, Marcello Mastroianni, Vittorio Gassman”.
A place that since its inception has been part of the life of the Romans; mentioned several times in the films of the “King of Rome”, Alberto Sordi. Each of these names was immortalized by the historical paparazzi of the time: Rino Barillari, Marcello Radogna, Umberto Pizzi, and who, with their shots, stopped time. It is the black and white snapshots that dominate the place because those names, the stories of each of them, made Jackie O’ memorable. A place that has maintained the same magic for 50 years, in which the need to follow trends has never been felt, on the contrary, which has often dictated them.
Tradition in the present
That of Jackie O’ is also the story of a female duo, Beatrice and Veronica Iannozzi, mother and daughter, two generations symbol of continuity, tenacity and success in the difficult world of the night.
The secret of their success perhaps lies precisely in the determination with which they have never bowed to changes, promising to make every guest experience a real journey through time: the 70s / 80s in which even the restaurant was made at as a show. The menu of the restaurant is an amarcord of those years: Riso al grigio, Fillet with green pepper with flambé directly in the dining room to amaze, the Crepes suzette. An excellent raw material for a classic cuisine at the antipodes of gourmet, the one signed by Chef Federico Sparaco. And the piano bar, a format that has always distinguished Jackie O ‘, which makes people dance until dawn.
A few days ago it celebrated its unstoppable 50 years in business, to relive what it has been and which continues to be a place that has marked an era.
