Ardbeg è felice di annunciare il rilascio del primo single malt della sua nuova Anthology Collection: si tratta di Ardbeg Anthology: The Harpy’s Tale.
Invecchiato 13 anni in una combinazione di botti ex-bourbon e vino dolce Sauternes, questo whisky rappresenta un Ardbeg davvero unico, dove potente affumicatura e ricca dolcezza si danno battaglia. In omaggio a questo insolito stile “ibrido”, la confezione e l’etichetta della bottiglia si ispirano alla favolosa e inafferrabile Arpia, essere mitologico metà donna e metà uccello.

Il Dr. Bill Lumsden, Direttore della Distillazione e della Creazione di Whisky, dichiara: “Abbiamo avviato una serie di sperimentazioni sugli stili di maturazione di Ardbeg per fondere la sua caratteristica firma affumicata con note più sfumate e dolci. Con The Harpy’s Tale diamo vita a una nuova dinastia di Ardbeg, ancora più complessa e molto insolita. Si tratta di un assaggio che rappresenta un’autentica battaglia tra dolce e affumicato: credo che gli appassionati di Ardbeg non abbiano mai sperimentato una cosa simile in un nostro whisky e che sono certo li entusiasmerà, una volta assaggiato.”

Note di degustazione
- ABV: 46%
- Colore: Ambrato
- Naso: Si rivelano tocchi di olio extravergine d’oliva, radica dolce ed erbe aromatiche, come coriandolo e salvia. Un accenno di buccia di limone affumicata emerge per un istante. Con una spruzzata d’acqua arriva una maggiore nota oleosa, olio di lino e leggerissima cera. Un’esplosione di sapone carbolico profumato prende il volo, lasciando dietro di sé un lieve sentore di crème brûlée.
- Palato: Una bocca morbida e oleosa conduce a una dolcezza ricca e legnosa di melassa scura e nota balsamica. Accenni di muschio di quercia si liberano mentre iniziano a emergere note più affumicate. Pasticche di anice, albicocche affumicate e olio di eucalipto si fondono in un mosaico di sapori contrastanti.
- Finale: Lungo e persistente retrogusto di dolcezza e fumo. Un tocco di cumino, cardamomo e il più lieve accenno di cocco chiudono questo incredibile assaggio.
Ardbeg presents The Harpy’s Tale, sweet and smoky single malt
Ardbeg is happy to announce the release of the first single malt of its new Anthology Collection: it is Ardbeg Anthology: The Harpy’s Tale.
Aged 13 years in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and Sauternes sweet wine, this whiskey represents a truly unique Ardbeg, where powerful smokiness and rich sweetness battle it out. As a tribute to this unusual “hybrid” style, the packaging and bottle label are inspired by the fabulous and elusive Harpy, a mythological being half woman and half bird.
Ardbeg The Harpy’s Tale is the whiskey that inaugurates the new Anthology Collection of the Distillery: a range of experimental single malts that will present enthusiasts with rare and exceptional Ardbegs, each aged in new and unusual barrel types.
Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Whiskey Distillation and Creation, said: “We have embarked on a series of trials on Ardbeg’s maturation styles to blend its characteristic smoky signature with more nuanced and sweeter notes. With The Harpy’s Tale we give birth to a new Ardbeg dynasty, even more complex and very unusual. It is a tasting that represents an authentic battle between sweet and smoky: I believe that Ardbeg enthusiasts have never experienced such a thing in one of our whiskeys and I am sure they will be thrilled once tasted.”

Tasting notes
- ABV: 46%
- Color: Amber
- Nose: Touches of extra virgin olive oil, sweet briar and aromatic herbs such as coriander and sage are revealed. A hint of smoked lemon peel emerges for an instant. With a splash of water comes a greater oily note, linseed oil and very light wax. An explosion of scented carbolic soap takes flight, leaving behind a faint hint of crème brûlée.
- Palate: A smooth, oily mouthfeel leads into a rich, woody sweetness of dark molasses and balsamic note. Hints of oakmoss release as more smoky notes begin to emerge. Anise lozenges, smoked apricots and eucalyptus oil blend in a mosaic of contrasting flavours.
- Finish: Long and persistent aftertaste of sweetness and smoke. A touch of cumin, cardamom and the slightest hint of coconut close this incredible taste.
